Introduction

“Hang on to them hats and glasses, ’cause this here’s
the wildest ride in the wilderness!”

It’s the centerpiece of Frontierland, anchoring the area’s layout and story. It attracts old and young with its combination of family-friendly thrills and masterful showmanship. Even after almost twenty years and the addition of four more roller coasters throughout the resort this timeless classic has lost none of its appeal to park visitors.

As you’ll learn from its creators, the story behind the creation of Big Thunder Mountain is full of twists and turns worthy of the wildest ride in the West! Strangely enough it all started with a popular attraction that was missing from recently-built Walt Disney World, back in the early 1970s.
